Montalcino, home of great red wines, offers to connoisseurs one of its jewels, the Rosso DOC. It is a wine that comes from the Brunello vineyards but is marketed without the traditional aging of the “elder brother”. However, it is a product of great prestige that has developed qualitatively after the concession of the DOC (1983). The Rosso di Montalcino has the merit of having paved the way, even in Italy with the appellations “cascade”, where from one vineyard one draws several wines with appellation of origin. Farms have the opportunity to choose, either during the harvest, or during aging, whether the wine or grapes will be destined to become Brunello, or addressed to the production or bottling of the Rosso di Montalcino.
