The appellation originates from one of the symbolic monuments of Montalcino, the Romanesque abbey of Sant’Antimo. Built in the XII century at the foot of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, still solitary today in the valley surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and cypresses, it preserves the mysticism of the past.

The DOC was wanted by the producers to value all these quality wines that do not belong to the existing appellations but have recently been very successful among consumers.
